Films that should never be remade
I've haven't started a thread in a while so here goes:

What films do you think should never be remade. Or should never have been remade.

I'm going to have to think about my list for a while and will get back with it later in the week. Somehere near the top of that list will be IT. They were talking of remaking IT, I know, but I never heard whether they did or not.

Anyway, lets not go daft here, what are your top-five films that you think should never be remade, or should never have been remade? It you can make ten, that's okay. If you can make it 110 then you watch tv too much and need to get a life I'll probably stick to a list of about 5 and wil post it later in the week.

Re: Films that should never be remade
Well, I can see that I've started an incredibly popular thread here Anyway, I've come up with a list of 8. If I thought about it longer I could probably come up with more. Here is my list:

Stephen King's IT (1990)

Christine (1983)

From dusk till dawn (1996)

Freaks (1932)

Near Dark (1987)

The Tenant (1976)

The Haunting (1963)

Psychomania (1971)

The Sentinel (1977)

Freaks (1932)

M (1931)

The Evil Dead (1981) - okay so it was technically remade as Evil Dead II but don't try and remake either now . . .

Psycho (1960) - I know this was remade in 1998 but it should not have been. I mean what was the point?

My rationale behind not wanting Freaks and The Sentinel remade is that they used actual freaks in the movie and I don't think it would come across quite the same way in this day and age. They would try to CGI them all in or something and they would lose that genuine feeling in my opinion.

M was just amazing as is. Again a case of I think today's filmmakers would just get too fancy with it and miss the simplicity that makes this film so great.

Millie: Everything that you said about Freaks is exactly what went through my mind when I put the film in my list. That is exacly what would happen and all the feeling would be lost.

yHeLlOw: Wow! We watch the same sort of films. I think a lot of people will have seen From Dusk till Dawn. Not too many people are aware of The Tenant though and even less are aware of Psychomania, although I think that it is classed as a cult film now. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that still watches these films.

I feel like I may have seen The Tenant but I am not quite sure. After having read the description it is definitely one I have to make sure that I do see.

Well here's mine....

Please never remake
Hellraiser
Rosemarys baby
Nightmare on Elm St

Ones that should never have been remade
Psycho (just pure terrible)

But then there's good remakes, such as house on a haunted hill, and the ring, and grudge.....I can't stand trying to read and watch a film at the same time! lol

Re: Films that should never be remade
See - I had a problem with the remakes of Ringu and The Ju-on. . . I just didn't think they were all that effective in the US versions. Especially The Grudge - maybe I should give it another chance but I just couldn't get past Sarah Michelle Gellar being in Tokyo - it just didn't work for me.
