Signs anyone?

Weird crop circles, aliens that don't really look like they could do all that much damage and a weapon against the aliens that has been right out in the open all along . . . sounds vaguely familiar . . .

Weird similarities to M. Knight Shyamalan's Signs aside, Silent Warnings was actually an enjoyable film. It was like a cross between a real slow sci-fi thriller and a Friday the 13th movie (you know because of all of the scantily clad women and young men with high testosterone levels). I have to say though in my mind, the character of cousin Joe (Stephen Baldwin) was way overacted and his life was mercifully (for the viewers) cut short.

After the death of his cousin Joe, Layne (A.J. Buckley) comes back to clean up his farm for sale. He brings along a few of his friends to help with the renovations. His friends - Macy (Callie De Fabry), Stephen (David O'Donnell), Katrina (Michelle Borth), Iris (Kim Onasch) and Maurice (Ransford Doherty) - don't know quite what they are in for when they show up at the farm to find that it has been not only in disarray but also set up as some sort of compound complete with a electrified fence surrounding the farm house.

Layne finds some weird drawings and videos of his uncle's in the attic where he rants about what he has "realized". He doesn't think too much of them at first, but that is before his friends start disappearing. He soon enlists the help of local sheriff Bill Willingham (Billy Zane) who also happened to be a good friend of his uncle's. But is it too late?

This film actually had a lot of really great potential. Unfortunately, the aliens looked very cheesy and I don't think the layout of the story actually ever got you to realize the severity of the situation at hand. At the end of the film (I quite enjoyed the end scene by the way - very hopeless) I was left thinking that this could have been a much, much better film with a little bigger budget or possibly better editing. Worth catching if you've got some free time.
