Oh Deer . . .

Really, this was not my favorite Masters of Horror episode. I would even venture to say it was my least favorite. So, as I feared John Landis’ Deer Woman did not fare any better than last week’s installment (which was not so bad when all was said and done). So much for the power positive thinking as I was willing this one to do better than just mildly entertain.

The story goes like this - a detective who has been relegated to strictly animal patrol duty is thrust into a strange death investigation. To make an exaserbatingly long story short, the detective and his dim-witted comic beat cop sidekick begin the search for a mythological Indian creature who has the drop dead gorgeous body and face of a woman but walks on the legs of a deer (a two legged deer at that). Her sole purpose in life seems to be to seduce men and then kill them by trampling them with her deer legs. Even the Indian casino host they happen to run into (cops eat free at the new casino - very convenient for the story) cannot put a logical spin on the Deer Woman legend.

An interesting insight into the mind of a horny man, this woman cannot even talk, she cannot utter one single word, but still she is able to get any man she wants to follow her ultimately to his own demise. Even the dim-witted comic beat cop is fooled by this fornicating fawn.

With a couple of silly laughs and a reference to Landis’ 1981 movie, An American Werewolf in London, Deer Woman does little else than mildly entertain. Here’s hoping that next week’s episode titled Cigarette Burns directed by John Carpenter will knock my socks off.
