It's all about Karma my friends . . .
In this Medium episode titled, The Reckoning, we find our resident psychic detective's sleep being interrupted by a horribly vivid dream of running into a girl with her car on the road by the hospital. Joe's brilliant solution? Never, ever drive down the road by the hospital. While I am sure that Joe thought his solution was brilliant, Allison did not.
Just going to show you that Allison still has not got the full grasp of the meanings of her dreams, she believes that the reason she has the dream is to force her into getting her headlight fixed so she won't be distracted and hit the young girl in her dream. This has her running into a woman in the diner next to the service station who seems to be very troubled. Allison ends up giving her her card and letting her know that she can contact her anytime to talk. Knowing the ultimate ending of this episode, I can't help but wonder if that wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.
The next morning, Allison gets a call from Detective Scanlon asking her if she knew a Nadine Massey (Suki Kaiser). She of course, never got the woman's name from the diner, but she ultimately puts two and two together and meets Scanlon to speak with the husband James Massey (Lawrence Monoson).
Nadine's apparent suicide doesn't feel right to Allison especially after she begins seeing flames engulfing the room around them. Come to find out, the girl that Allison saw herself hitting in her dreams was really the victim of a hit and run. But it was not Allison who was at the wheel, but one of the Massey's. And on the year anniversary of the hit and run Nadine ends up killing herself. . . very convenient. But as I always say folks, Karma is a bitch and in the end the universe will always balance itself out.
Arielle has an interesting sub-story in this episode where she is beginning to dabble with her own psychic abilities. At a slumber party she tells her girlfriends their futures but stops when she gets a frightening vision of her new friend sick and dying in a hospital bed. As Joe and Allison struggle with what to do with this information they get the news that the friend's older cousin who looks very much like her is sick in the hospital back in New York.
The character development in this series is extremely well done. And the writers seem to be on a real roll. Here's hoping that the momentum keeps going and we continue to have a superb and original series for years to come.
