Final Destination 3 brings us back to our good old fashioned
"don't piss Death off" roots . . .
With fabulous kill scenes and not too much trying to delve beneath the surface of the plot, this movie was one wild ride from beginning to end. We literally begin with the ride from hell as our heroine, Wendy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), while on her senior trip, causes some passengers from an ill fated amusement park ride to be "saved" from their imminent demise. Little did she know that the pictures she took earlier that evening would show how Death would ultimately get its revenge . . .
As the film progresses each and every victim that Wendy has saved begins to die from horrible "accidents". From the cheerleaders, Ashley (Chelan Simmons) and Ashlyn (Crystal Lowe) who did everything together (including die), to Frankie Cheeks (Sam Easton) who was a ladies man to the end, even her own sister, Julie (Amanda Crew) is not safe from the cold, hard hands of death. I have to admit that my absolute favorite kill scene had to be that of Lewis (Texas Romero) who learns the hard way not to tempt Death because Death is always ahead of the game (that's a little hint right there folks - here's another SQUISH). And it is funny to say, but as I thought of that being my favorite kill scene, I think back and I really enjoyed the kill scene in the home improvement store as well. It's hard to pick a favorite really, they were all extremely well done.
As in the previous installments of
Final Destination, Death does not disappoint as we all know that no matter how long it takes we all eventually die. It's like even though these kids keep running from Death their running does seem rather futile, doesn't it?
I was glad that director James Wong was back for this installment. And so long as they don't try to change it up too much, I can see years of the Final Destination franchise because what is so entertaining about these films is not the plot or the acting so much as the creativity and execution (no pun intended) of the kill scenes. Keep finding new ways for people to be offed and the series will definitely keep on. I will surely be one that will gladly keep going to see how creative people can be.
