Another really great episode of Medium, Allison Wonderland really makes you think about government conspiracies . . .
. . . or in this case familial conspiracies.
Either way Allison Wonderland puts a new twist to the familiar plot line of the mathematical genius gone slightly mad (think A Beautiful Mind). I thought the fact that Allison (Patricia Arquette) always saw Jessica’s (Rebecca Gayheart) brother as David Carradine was quite interesting as he himself explained that that was how he was seeing himself at the time of his death.
Involved in what he thought was a government conspiracy, he had strayed far from home and his sister, Jessica began to get worried about him. Lucky for Jessica she did some charity work with Devalos’(Miguel Sandoval) wife. Devalos recruits Detective Scanlon (David Cubitt) and Allison to try and get a handle on where the brother might be. Unfortunately, they found him not quite so well. But through Allison’s visions and Scanlon’s detective work the guilty are ultimately punished and all is right with the world again.
As is normally the case, there is an interesting subplot going on that involves the Dubois family. It seems that Bridgette (Maria Lark) has fallen in love with a series of books based on a character named Danielle. Danielle has been in Despair, Distress and in the Deep End. Bridgette cannot get enough of these books and Joe (Jake Weber) promises that he will get her every last Danielle book there is. As it turns out, Bridgette does have every last Danielle book because the author has died. Imagine Joe’s surprise when Bridgette transcribes the newest book in the Danielle series onto his work computer. You are left wondering if this is just Bridgette being her precocious little self or if she really is a literal ghost writer. Either way, Allison sees it as a blessing – Joe on the other hand is not so sure . . .
The character development in this series is phenomenal. I have to say that each week I find myself looking forward to seeing how this family will grow and change. And I am also enjoying the interaction between Devalos, Scanlon and Allison. They are becoming a regular “dream team”.
Next week looks very interesting as it seems we will be seeing more of Allison’s brother. Oh more family character development . . . I can barely contain myself!
