What people won’t do for five million dollars. . .
The Triangle was an interesting mini-series. It tried to not only explain the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle but also to put a stop to the strange and horrible things that tend top happen in that section of the ocean.
Putting together his crack team of professionals - two scientists, Bruce Geller (Michael Rodgers) and Emily Patterson (Catherine Bell); one psychic, Stan Lathem (Bruce Davison); and one Triangle savvy journalist, Howard Thomas (Eric Stoltz) - Eric Benirall (Sam Neil) hopes to find more than just the missing ships from his fleet but also his brother who has been lost out in the Triangle for years.
Strange things begin to happen to this talented quartet as they get closer to the truth of what is really going on out there. Alternate realities begin emerging due to some sort of tear in the fabric of time and space. The more they learn, the more intrigued they become and the more unable to let go of the mystery - well I suppose the five million dollar paycheck may have something to do with their inability to let go also.
And when they find a man who originally worked on the Triangle project with the Navy ( oh come on now, there had to be some sort of government involvement!) , Karl Sheedy (Marius Weyers) they race against time to stop what could just be the end of the world.
A sub-story in this series is that of Meeno Paloma (Lou Diamond Phillips) who was a solitary survivor of a Greenpeace mission in the Triangle region. This lone survivor had more than just his feelings of guilt to deal with when he was rescued and came back to dry land. It seems his children would alternately appear and disappear and this was putting quite a strain on his family life to say the least. He ends up coming together with the team at the end to once again pilot his small Greenpeace vessel to try and make a difference in this world. But is it too late?
As I stated earlier, The Triangle was quite interesting. The atmosphere was pretty dark and dreary, but that lent itself well to the overall feeling of the end of the world as we know it. I have to admit that I got lost and a little bored sometimes with the scientific explanations of what was going on in the whole time/space tear, but all in all the series was very entertaining.
