When you are warned by a blind medium to leave well enough alone, well then just leave well enough alone . . .
Jonathan Rivers (Michael Keaton) seems to have the perfect life . . . He has a wonderful marriage with wife and famous author, Anna (Chandra West), has a beautiful son Mike (Nicholas Elia) from a previous marriage and guess what - Anna's pregnant. Life couldn't get grander. That is of course until the unspeakable happens and Anna's life is cut short by a tragic accident . . . or was it an accident?
Jonathan is soon contacted by Raymond Price (Ian McNeice) who claims to have heard from Anna from beyond (this is before we even know that Anna is really dead). He tells Jonathan that when he is ready, to contact him. Not believing in this type of thing Jonathan just tries to get on with his life. However after Anna's death is confirmed and he begins getting strange contacts of his own he does go to see Raymond. This is when he meets Sarah Tate (Deborah Kara Unger), another of Price's clients who has just deciphered the messages Raymond has received from her late fiancé.
After another tragic "accident" Raymond is killed in his home and things really start getting strange for Jonathan as he dives deeper and deeper into the world of
EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). At one point he even goes to see a blind medium, Mirabelle Keegan (Connor Tracy) who sees bad things for him and urges him to stop delving into things he does not truly understand. It's pretty common sense too because where there are good forces there are always equally bad forces. The only question is, which forces are guiding Jonathan?
White Noise was a pretty decently scary flick. It moved a little slowly in parts for me but all in all kept my attention pretty well. The fact that there really are "documented" cases of EVP contact and that 1 in 12 of these contacts are threatening in nature truly makes me never want to accidentally tune into a de-tuned station ever again. But unfortunately for me, the ending was kind of just "eh" in nature. A mediocre recommend . . .but it does make me want to learn more about EVP.
