"I'm a little teapot short and stout..."

...I will never be able to listen to that nursery rhyme and feel quite the same way again after hearing Andre Linoge (Colm Feore) sing his version for little Ralphie Anderson (Dyllan Christopher) in Storm of the Century.

Now imagine you live in a small town on an island, cut off from the mainland due to one of the biggest storms in this century - I know, you think this is bad enough...but imagine a bit more, imagine there is a menace trapped on this island with you. A menace that will make very bad things happen until you give it what it wants. What it wants is beyond comprehension.

This is the basis for Stephen King's Storm of the Century. I think that all of Stephen King's works are best suited for mini series. Once you try to cut him down to two hours, you lose something in the way of his artful character building. I mean yes, it is true that there is no substitute for reading a Stephen King novel, but at least with the mini series you are allowed more of a chance for character development.

Having said that, you really get the feel for each of these characters during this film. From the beginning you know that Little Tall Island has some nasty little secrets hidden in the townsfolk's closets. This is brought to light by Andre Linoge who gives new meaning to the phrase "wreaking havoc". After each successive incident Linoge repeats his catch phrase "give me what I want and I will go away..." But can the townsfolk really live with a decision to give him what he wants? Do they even really have a choice? To find out I strongly recommend viewing Storm of the Century. If you live in New England watch this film in the winter with a storm brewing and a fire burning - it just adds a little.
