Blood is thicker than water . . .

. . . and in this installment of the Ginger Snaps films, the bond between sisters still proves to be stronger than anything else.

We start off the third film in the Ginger Snaps franchise with Brigitte (Emily Perkins) and Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) riding a horse through the woods. We are not sure where they have come from but they end up at an old woman's (Edna Rain) tent as she explains to them that they must kill the boy or one of the sisters will die. Not knowing what that means they scurry off into the woods after their horse only to have Brigitte get stuck in a bear trap.

Lucky for them an Indian hunter (Nathaniel Arcand) happens to be in the area and escorts them back to a trading fort where the men seem a bit strange to Brigitte and Ginger. Come to find out they have been under attack by creatures as of yet unknown to the sisters. A warning from the priest of the fort, Reverend Gilbert (Hugh Dillon) suggests that perhaps the girls were just sent into the fort as a means of temptation. The good reverend seems to be at least one sandwich short of a picnic.

Come to find out, the leader of the fort, Wallace Rowlands (Tom McCamus), has a secret of his own that his son Geoffrey (Stevie Mitchell) was bitten by one of the beasts and he has been hiding him within the fort claiming him as dead. Unfortunately the girls find out his little secret as Ginger tries to comfort the boy and is bitten and infected with the curse. Here is where the fun begins as the sisters must decide whether to save humanity from the Wendigo or hold on to each other.

Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning is a well done werewolf thriller complete with pretty decent special effects, fairly good acting and of course sisters with both attitude and loyalty. A definite recommend especially if you liked the original Ginger Snaps, which by the by, I did thoroughly enjoy.
