No longer just looking for peepers, The Creeper get's down to some real business in
Jeepers Creepers II: The Second Night . . .
I caught the sequel to the so-so thriller
JEEpers CrEEpers on SciFi last night as well. And while I was not blown away by it, it did offer a slightly better movie. Possibly because I wasn't expecting much after the first installment.
In this story, set on the 22nd day of The Creeper's (
Jonathan Breck) 23 day feast, we find The Creeper up to his old tricks in a cornfield where young Billy Taggart (
Shaun Fleming) was charged with securing the scarecrows so they wouldn't blow away in a storm. As Billy comes upon his final scarecrow, he notices something strange and try as he might to get away, The Creeper has decided there is something he needs from Billy and is not about to let that happen.
Older brother, Jack Jr.(
Luke Edwards) and his father Jack Sr. (
Ray Wise) then set off on a mission to avenge young Billy's death.
Enter the basketball team that just so happens to be unlucky enough to have to travel through the Creeper's territory on his last night to feed. The Creeper must smell something in them that he likes because he throws these homemade bone Chinese stars at the bus' tires which end up putting the bus out of commission in a completely remote area. As in the last film, there is a psychic on the bus (oh lucky for us!), Minxie (
Niki Aycox) who dreams about Darry (
Justin Long) from the first film as well as young Billy. And just as in the last film, it seems like the only reason for her dreams is to fill in the holes in the storyline. It's just too bad they couldn't have gotten Jezelle (
Patricia Belcher) back from the original because at least she would have been entertaining.
While the adults on the bus, coaches Charlie Hanna (
Thom Gossom Jr.), Dwayne Barnes (
Tom Tarantini) and bus driver Betty (
Diane Delano) are done away with rather quickly, the kids are left to try and fight off the ages old demon and try to survive the night. It seems The Creeper has singled a few of them out and is quite willing to rip through any onboard to get to who and what he needs.
The team ends up reaching the Taggarts on the school bus radio and they promise to bring help but it seems the only thing Jack Sr. is intent on doing is bringing down The Creeper himself. He at least seems pretty prepared for battle and at the end of the day, it wasn't a horrible ending for the film - though it did smack of another installment on the way for us. This may not be such a bad thing though because as I stated earlier, the second was definitely just a bit better than the first. If they keep going in this fashion maybe by the 22nd in the series we may just have a good movie?
