An interesting take on the classic werewolf story . . .
Cursed was a pretty good film and although the ending lacked a little something for me, overall it did satisfy my horror tooth. The basic story was about a brother and sister, Jimmy (Jesse Eisenberg) and Ellie (Christina Ricci), who were involved in a car accident and were inadvertently (or so we think at first) turned into werewolves.
It was interesting to me to see the transformation of the pair from kind of meek and mild mannered to hot and full of attitude. Whether we are talking about Ellie's change from needy and clingy with her flaky boyfriend Jake (Joshua Jackson) or Jimmy's budding romance with Brooke (Kristina Anapau), it is nice to see their confidence boosted - even though it is due to their transformation into Lychanthropes.
Come to find out, there was a method behind the madness of the two being turned. But just when you think you have gotten the mystery figured out, boom - you don't. And that was a bit of the appeal of the film for me because I kept getting surprised. Unfortunately though, the ending was not quite surprising enough for me.
I have to mention the great bit performance by Portia de Rossi as Zela the psychic. She is just so beautiful and was totally believable as a carnival psychic trying to get onto the Craig Kilborn show. Joanie (Judy Greer) was also great as fellow Lychanthrope as well as annoying publicist to Scott Baio. Zipper (Solar) the dog was awesome as a family pup that was also infected with the curse. Add in a few celebrity appearances by Craig Kilborn, Scott Baio and Lance Bass (not to mention Mya as one of the hors'd'oeuvres of the werewolf) and you have got yourself one tasty little treat.
I would absolutely recommend a viewing of
Cursed for any fan of werewolves, Christina Ricci or just plain fun horror films in general.
