All Joyce ever wanted was a little piece and quiet . . .

. . . and if you never get that, it can make you go slightly mad.

As evidenced by Joyce Chandler's (Trish Goff) decent into madness fueled by her noisy and rather insane upstairs neighbor, Charlotte Bancroft (Ally Sheedy). Charlotte seemed to want to torment Joyce from the very beginning, and torment her she did.

Joyce, a recent divorce starting a new life with a new job and a new apartment was trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered existence. An existence shattered by her now ex-husband, Elliott (David Thornton). She even joins a group of fellow divorces who meet to discuss life in general. But all around you can see that Joyce doesn't really fit in anywhere.

After a few weeks of torment from Charlotte, Joyce decides to take matters into her own hands and she puts an ad in the personals for Charlotte - in essence describing her as some sort of prostitute. Unfortunately for Joyce, things only get worse as Charlotte is more than willing to trot down the slipper slope of sluthood.

This means more long and loud nights of sleeplessness for Joyce and eventually she succumbs to her ever present drinking problem. Her job suffers and she is eventually told to take some unpaid time off. Lucky for her that her boss is an old friend of Charlotte's and Charlotte told her that she wasn't sleeping very well lately.

One night while running a bath, Joyce hears tapping in morse code from upstairs so she of course goes up to investigate. She finds Charlotte on the floor and she had been attacked pretty violently. You would think that Charlotte would have been more than appreciative of the fact that Joyce had saved her life and would have stopped tormenting her after this episode. However, things are going downhill for Joyce. It seems that the time off at the office for Joyce ended badly as her boss hired someone else for her position. To make matters worse, Charlotte once she gets out of the hospital, is back to her old tricks of tormenting Joyce.

There is only so much one person can take. The only question is, when will Joyce's breaking point come?

Noise was a pretty decent thriller. There's a bit of a twist at the end that I wasn't expecting but certainly should have seen coming. I would definitely recommend a viewing if you happen to catch it on some night. I really enjoyed the soundtrack too - very melodramatic. And the way they did the ending credits was pretty interesting.
