. . . add into that mix an ancient Egyptian Mummy and now you know that is going to be one good time!
Bubba Ho-Tep was a very original film. With writing from Don Coscarelli and Joe R. Lansdale and acting from the one and only Bruce Campbell (thank goodness there is only one, I don't think the world could handle any more - and I mean that in a positive way), this movie is not so over the top as its premise may suggest.
Basically, nursing home resident Sebastian Haff (Bruce Campbell) aka
Elvis Aaron Presley and his sidekick Jack (Ossie Davis) aka President John F. Kennedy find themselves faced with the task of banishing a horrible soul sucking Egyptian mummy who is plaguing their home. The most ingenious portions of this story for me are the hilarious back stories to how Elvis and the President ended up in an East Texas nursing home in the first place. With a great atmosphere and wonderful character acting, Bubba Ho-Tep is certainly destined to be a pop culture favorite.
The battles between our heroes and their foe are quite comical. The soul sucking scenes cracked me up as well as it seems that our Bubba Ho-Tep is able to suck a soul from any orifice of its victim's body. There was also a cute little scene of a long-lived, kleptomaniac who steals the glasses off of a woman in an iron lung - precious! Not to mention Sebastian/Elvis' fight with the soul sucker's little bug familiar.
Bubba Ho-Tep is definitely a strong recommend for anyone who likes a bit of a cheesy horror film, any fans of Bruce Campbell or anyone who just is looking for a screaming good time!
