Knock, Knock
Who's there?
Boo!Boo! who . . .
Why am I crying you ask? Because Boo was so very bad. I had such high hopes for it even though it was a Sci-fi special because the premise was quite inviting for a fan of horror. But having said all that, it wasn't absoloutely horrible and did have some redeeming qualities.
Basically, a group of friends - Jessie (Trish Coren), Kevin (Jilon Ghai), Marie (Nicole Rayburn) and Freddy (Josh Holt) - decide to visit a little Halloween haunted house of their own at an abandoned insane asylum. As we all know this is never a good idea. Staged by Kevin's friend Emmett (Happy Mahaney), this asylum has a few tricks of its own up its sleeve.
For one, the elevator in this asylum only takes you up to the third floor. This is the floor that is supposedly haunted. This seems kind of silly though as you can always take the stairs, right? Well, sometimes you can and sometimes you can't. I guess it all depends on what the house wants at that certain time - or rather it's trapped ghostly inhabitants.
It seems that there is a patient of the asylum who ended up causing a fire on the third floor and he wants out. However, his nurse - Nurse Russell (Dee Wallace-Stone) has vowed that she would never let this happen. To make things even a bit more confusing, there is a sub story of Jacob (M. Steven Felty) and his sister Meg (Rachel Melvin). Meg visited the old asylum a few days back and now brother Jacob is searching for her. He enlists the help of a family friend and former "actor" Arlo aka Dynamite Jones (Dig Wayne). His character unfortunately was not involved more in the movie. He at least provided some form of comedic relief.
Conveniently, Jessie is a bit of a psychic and has visions of what has gone on in the asylum in the past. Her visions coupled with Meg's experiences before she and her brother meet up with the other trapped teens blend to give you a decent sense of why things are happening the way they are.
But even with that extra little push, the bad acting and somewhat raw edges of the story don't really work for me. Although I have to admit that the actual feel of the asylum was really good. And I enjoyed the clown element they used as well as the "melting person" effect.
While I wouldn't recommend to go right out and pick this little ditty up, if you happen to catch
Boo on I also wouldn't recommend that you just turn the channel. Well, unless something better is on I guess . . .
