Hobbs End couldn't end soon enough for me . . .

So I had a hard time deciphering whether this film was trying to be slasher, a psychological thriller or a comedic horror - I then decided it was just a plain old bad movie. Whether that was what the people involved in making this pile of poo were aiming for or not, they sure got there pretty well.

Basically, Lacey Cole (Catarina Conti) is a fairly recent widow - 2 years - and her best friend, Cindy (Stacy Hunter) is convinced that it is time for her to move on and be with other men. She feels her friend has grieved enough. Problem is that Lacey lives out in Hobbs End which is a very secluded one horse town. Subsequently Cindy is always trying to set Lacey up with various men she finds along her path.

Enter supposed handyman Todd - who is really not Todd (Chris Dobbs) at all but Michael (Brennan Elliott). Michael turns out to be a serial killer who is not only schizophrenic, but also has psychic abilities to glean personal information from the dead simply by touching their things.
. . . what??

You would think this would teach me to stay away from the bargain bin at the local K-Mart store but it probably will not. It's like my obsession with Sci-Fi Original films - I so badly go into watching these films with the hopes of being pleasantly surprised. And even though I am normally unpleasantly pissed off after watching them there is that time or two that actually pays off for me.

What can I say, I'm an optimist . . .

On another note though, I defy someone to explain to me why there is a man holding a chainsaw on the front cover of the movie? So far as I could see in the film, there was no chainsaw used anywhere. Also, the front cover boasts a town population of 667 but in the film Cindy claims there are something like 1030 in Hobbs End (her handyman Todd making 1031). . . very curious indeed.
