Hadn't these people ever heard of planning for the "unexpected" . . .

Seems to me that if you are a cave diver you are going to make damn sure that there are failsafes all over the cotton pickin' place. Didn't seem to me that Jack (Cole Hauser), the leader of our doomed group, planned for much of anything. Now realize this is coming from a non-cave diver here, but still and all it just seems like a perfect lack of common sense to me.

At any rate, a new group of uncharted caves are found in Romania and Jack and his team are called out to lead the dive down to explore them. Problem is that once the group gets down there a horrific accident takes place and they are trapped. Worse than that is the fact that they've got only 12 days of supplies and won't even be missed for at least that long. So Jack decides that they need to find their own way out seeing as he and his team are the best rescue team in the world anyway.

Here comes another problem - the caves are filled with mysterious creatures intent on eating Jack, his crew and the scientists along for the dive. After Jack is attacked by one of these creatures he begins to change in not the nicest of ways. But he and his brother Tyler (Eddie Cibrian) believe that he is still the best man to lead them out of this crisis. Unfortunately, part of the group don't agree and they end up splitting up - this is of course, after a few of the team have been basically eaten alive by the strange cave dwelling beasts.

Most of The Cave deals with the struggle the team faces to get out of this situation alive. Though a little time is spent on what the heck it is they are running from, I don't feel enough emphasis was put on it. I have to say overall, this film didn't really work for me. I never felt really connected to any of the characters and could care less if they lived or died. There was a real push in the movie to show a tension between the brothers but I never really bought it. As far as the changes within Jack himself they weren't all that believable to me either.

Here's my recommendation - don't waste your time with The Cave. I mean if you've got nothing better to do I'd seriously consider making something up.
