Beware The (glowing) Fog...

The Fog starts off creepy and just gets better from there. The opening scene shows a weathered old sea captain Mr. Machen (John Houseman) telling the most chilling of ghost stories by firelight about a ship called The Elizabeth Dane. The story, we are to find, is not all that far from the truth.

Sultry radio station owner Stevie Wayne (Adrienne Barbeau) and her meteorological friend Dick Baxter (James Canning) spot a fog just off the coast of Antonio Bay. The only problem; the fog seems to be moving against the wind. What kind of fog does that you might ask? I'll tell you - a bad ass glowing fog carrying the ghosts of lepers past...and they are pissed off! Just as Antonio Bay celebrates its 100th birthday, facts come to light that dampen the festivities quite a bit.

Returning in a second of Carpenter's classics, Jamie Lee Curtis and Nancy Loomis are just fantastic. Jamie Lee's mom Janet Leigh also plays a pivotal role in the film as the town's historian. She may have wanted to leave well enough alone when Father Malone (Hal Holbrook) stumbled upon the journal of his great grandfather eluding to the sins of the town's founders, but other forces just would not let that happen. She (Janet Leigh) does deliver one of the best lines of the movie when she tells her assistant Sandy (Nancy Loomis) that she is the only one she knows that can make "yes ma'am sound like screw you." Oh that is just classic!

Beautifully shot and expertly cast, The Fog is one film that should not be missed by any horror film enthusiast.
