Review - The Fog

Probably one of the worst remakes I have seen to date . . .

It was interesting because after I watched The Fog on Starz tonight, there was this little Q & A with the stars and John Carpenter was on it and he was talking about how it was great that the film could be re-imagined and shared with a new generation. I just kept thinking how sad for this generation if they only see that re-imagined piece of pig vomit.

Okay some things that I didn't like in this version were as follows:

1. They totally wiped out the whole ghost story feeling portrayed by the telling of the ghost story on the beach to a bunch of wide eyed youngsters by Mr. Machen (John Houseman I) from the original version.

2. I felt no motherly love whatsoever from Stevie Wayne (Selma Blair) in this version toward her son Andy (Cole Heppell). As a matter of fact, I didn't really buy any of the relationships in this film. Very poor character development all around if you ask me.

3. The smooth and sultry voice of Stevie from the first film (Adrienne Barbeau) was in no way, shape or form replicated by this version's Stevie.

4. How do you replace driftwood with a hairbrush?

5. What in the hell was up with the ending??? I mean I think I got the gist of what they were going for, but it still made absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

There are many other things that I didn't like in The Fog. Suffice it to say that in my opinion the original was better hands down and I would recommend watching that instead.

. . . okay now after rereading my review I feel bad so not to be totally negative - I did really enjoy the scene with Aunt Connie doing the dinner dishes. See, I always try to find something positive!
