Remember Uncle Charlie from My Three Sons? Well here he is in his best role ever!

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is a made for TV movie that scared the bejeeszus out of me. It was where my fear of tiny demons whispering in the dark truly began. In this tale of "woman moving to a big house in the country that's been owned by her family for generations" the Farnums move to rural America only for Sally Farnum to encounter strange beings that lived in the chimney of her grandfather's old study. Take my word for it, when Uncle Charlie tells you to leave well enough alone, you best leave well enough alone! Of course Sally is left alone in the countryside as hubby climbs his way up the corporate ladder and no one quite believes her tales of being stalked by whispering assailants until it may be too late (come on I have to leave some suspense).

For years, I remembered this movie which chilled me and my older brother to the very bone. Only on a trip out to Maryland did I find Don't Be Afraid of the Dark again at a Wonderland used book and video store. I ended up paying $50 for a very well viewed VHS of my first childhood horror movie. Once I viewed it again, I found it was just as scary as I had remembered. I have tried to coerce my brother to watch again, but for some reason he just won't budge on the subject and refuses to watch it. I guess it's true what they say...The first scare is the best or at the very least the most memorable.

If you can find this movie, I would definitely recommend viewing. I hear there is supposed to be a remake in 2005...not sure how good that will be, but hopefully it will cause a re-release of this cult classic and maybe even a Don't Be Afraid of the Dark DVD Release! Fingers crossed.
