Review - Haunted Prison

Haunted Prison gives a new meaning to the term “Death Row” . . .

I was astonishingly impressed with this Scifi Originals film especially after just having watched Rest Stop on my ReplayTV. There were some great characters in the film such as Danny Trejo as the prison priest (Trejo by no means had a huge part in this film but there’s just something menacingly great about Danny Trejo as a prison priest), Stacy Keach as a not so innocent prison guard and Jake Busey as Marco - the leader of a buffoon like gang of jewel thieves. Add to that the small team of would be documentary filmers and you’ve got a Scifi Original worth it’s weight in aluminum - come on guys, we can’t give them too much credit it wasn’t that great!

At any rate, the story goes like this we have some kids, Keith (Kyle Schmid), Brian (Scott Whyte), Missy (Claire Coffee), Angel (Danny Arroyo) and Lisa (Shanna Collins) who are going to Isla de la Roca Penitentiary to film their little documentary. Only problem is that a gang of jewel thieves also just so happen to be holing up in the joint after a somewhat botched robbery. Well, I guess technically I shouldn’t say that is their only problem because it seems as though the Isla de la Roca was spat up from the depths of hell itself- at least according to John Elias (Stacy Keach) who was the only survivor from a big riot that occurred some years back. And it seems like Isla de la Roca wants to steal the very souls of all who dare enter.

An interesting concept that was pretty well done with its fair share of gore and some great kill scenes too. I would definitely recommend this one if you come across it folks. You won’t be blown away but you also won’t feel like you’ve just thrown away a tiny portion of your life that you can never take back.
