After watching The Wicked One I can honestly say that I believe we will see the names Aaron Commareri and Jared Haas around in the world of horror films for years to come. . .
Although it was not a masterpiece, this film did a couple of things for me. Number one it kept me wondering what was coming next and number two it totally brought me back to my youth. I could relate to the characters because I remember having those silly keggers with the $5 cover charge and the funnels (oh the red plastic cups did take me back, oh yes they did). One of my favorite scenes matter of fact was when they sped up the party and Matt a.k.a. the lead demon (Chris Angstadt) was having horrible things done to him by the other party goers. But don’t worry, they got their comeuppance! And let’s not forget the host of the party - Johnny (Mitch Nyman) the typical meathead - he really did play one fantastic asshole.
Basically the plot goes like this: a couple of cleptomaniacal Goth. kids (Aaron Commareri and the blonde girl I can’t find listed anywhere) end up finding the map to some graves that hold a most horrible secret. Why Professor Stockwell (Doc Ogden) would allow such a map to be haphazardly stored in his used book store is beyond me but I suppose if he hadn’t, the movie would not have gone all that far, huh?
But I digress, after they find the map all hell breaks loose as they end up bringing back a very bad demon, Appladus and his minions. Every time someone is bitten they turn into a soulless demon. Well all except one person who is the chosen one. It is left to Stockwell, his son Brian (Jeremy Littlefield), Jackson (Jared Haas), Ariel (Jessica Shultz) and Frank (Chad Littlefield) to save themselves and the world from hell on earth.
I would definitely recommend going to the site and picking up this movie. Like I said before, it’s not a masterpiece but I was pleasantly surprised. That’s more than I can say for a lot of the films I have wasted my money on in the bargain bins and some of those actually had a decent budget!
