Workshed......This is possibly my favorite line in
Evil Dead II. It occurs at a point when Ash (Bruce Campbell) is being attacked by the head of his possessed girlfriend Linda (Denise Bixler). In an effort to release himself he has a revelation that all of his answers are in the workshed. Of course this is where he becomes acquainted with his beloved chainsaw.
Evil Dead II is more of a re-shoot of the original Evil Dead than a sequel, but it certainly holds it's own in the series. The series has a strong cult following and it is easy to see why when watching EDII. Ash effortlessly transforms from victim of the Deadites to destroyer of the Deadites without seeming to mourn one iota for his lost girlfriend or lost hand (it went bad so he lopped it off at the wrist).
It turns out that the cabin Ash has taken his beloved girlfriend Linda to is owned by Professor Raymond Knowby (John Peaks) who is obsessed with translating the Necronomicon (Book of the Dead). Seems he has translated the book onto a recorder and poor old Ash just has to press play. After the recitations are repeated all hell breaks loose (literally) and Ash is in for a fight for his very soul.
He is soon joined by the professor's daughter Annie Knowby (Sarah Berry) and her boyfriend Ed Getley (Richard Domeier) and their scouts from the forest Jake (Dan Hicks) and Bobbie Joe (Kassie Wesley). Annie and Ed are coming to the cabin with lost pages of the Necronomicon for her father's research. A bloodbath of epic proportions ensues and the movie ends with Ash falling right into the next installment of the Evil Dead series...pretty clever.
The special effects in
Evil Dead II were great to say the least. And the limited edition tin that I have has a little booklet explaining all of what went into making the five possessed characters of the film: Linda, Evil Ed, Henrietta, Ash and who could forget - Mr. Rotten Applehead. It also contains both wide and full frame presentations; audio commentary with Sam Raimi (writer/director), Bruce Campbell(star), Scott Spiegel (co-writer) and Greg Nicotero (special make up effects artist); Featurette "The Gore The Merrier"; theatrical trailer; Evil Dead: Hail to the King video game preview; still galleries; talent bios; 5" X 7" theatrical poster replica.. Interesting stuff - any true Evil Dead fan needs to have this tin! By the by there were only 50,000 made. I happen to have 21559/50000. Aren't I special!
