Review - Medium: Ghost in the Machine

Ghost in the Machine - yes leave it to our Medium to pick the one thing in the store that has psychic remnants all over it . . .

But I digress, Allison (Patricia Arquette) buys her husband (Jake Weber) a wonderful birthday gift not at all like the ties and ashtrays and the like he is used to receiving. However as the city finds itself in the midst of a sniper crises, Joe’s birthday present starts to become an even better buy than they originally anticipated.

The priced right camcorder begins to show Allison recordings of the past but the weird thing is that the camcorder isn’t plugged in or carrying any tape at the time of her little viewings. She keeps seeing scenes of Kathy (Kathleen Robertson) and Travis (Michael Raymond-James), two young lovers one of which is married and looking to get out of an abusive relationship with her brutish (and apparently very rich) husband. A husband who has a card game every Wednesday night at “the club”- very similar to the card game that the deceased Mrs. Caffey had every Wednesday night (conveniently also at “the club” and also ending around 11pm).

But tables start to turn when Allison actually finds “Kathy” and she isn’t really “Kathy” at all but rather Diana a very single waitress at the aforementioned club. With her trusty electronics salesman (Blair Hickey) at her side, Allison yet again solves the case and happily saves the day for all who are worried about another bout of sniper attacks.

I found Joe’s philosophical rants particulary interesting this episode. And I quote . . .

“I was driving home tonight, … every building that I passed, every bridge, every water tower, I was thinking, Is he there? And you could just feel it, every person in every car around me, they were thinking the same thing. Is he thinking about shooting at my car? At me? Doesn’t he know it’s my birthday? Doesn’t he know I have to get home so Bridgette can give me her ashtray?”

He is just so very . . .
