Review - Medium: Profiles in Terror

As Allison finds in this episode, sometimes it’s better not to meet the people you admire . . .

. . . they always end up falling short of that pedestal you put them on somehow.

Profiler, Agent Edward Cooper (Kurtwood Smith) comes to town on the case of the Lincoln Park Killer whom Allison believes is somehow involved with Cooper’s nemesis Richard Gomez (Wilson Jermaine Heredia). Cooper does everything he can think of to belittle Allison during a viewing of one of the victims, angry that she has brought up this possibility.

I thought the following was an interesting quote from Cooper in this episode: “I've worked a couple of missing children cases, I've met people like you before, you see things, don't you? It must be quite a burden. A long time ago, at the start of my career, I made a choice. I dedicated myself to getting inside the minds of killers, to going to worlds where other people wouldn't, or couldn't. It's rarely been pleasant. And it's changed me. But it was still my choice, you Mrs. DuBois… you go into the heads of murderers whether you want to or not. I admire you, but I sure don't envy you.”

Kind of sums up the way I feel about Ms. Dubois’ little ability myself. And by the end of this episode, Allison’s ability has helped Cooper to do something that she is not so sure she condemns, although her conscience tells her she should.

An interesting back story in this episode has to do with little Marie’s (Miranda Carabello) TV viewing habits. This proves to me once again that Medium is a show that’s here to stay because the creators and writers really keep you interested in all of the characters.
