Dark Ride – one of the movies from the After Dark Horror Film Festival’s Eight Films to Die For collection certainly did try and take you on a ride of sorts . . .

. . . albeit a ride to crazy town and I mean this in the literal as well as figurative senses of the word.

So a group of teens are going away for a spring break vacation when they come up with the grand plan to stop off at a “Dark Ride” attraction that has been closed for years due to a gruesome murder. Okay so we all know this type of scenario can never end well, right? Unfortunately for us movie watchers it not only didn’t end well but it kinda doesn’t begin or middle very well either.

Although I have to say that it was much more watchable than Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s last attempt at horror (Campfire Stories) – problem is that “much more watchable” isn’t a real compliment when Campfire Stories was totally unwatchable so . . .

At any rate, these teens (who look to be in their 30s) arrive at the Dark Ride (complete with crazy hitchhiker Jen (Andrea Bogart) who oddly reminded me of Sheri Moon Zombie) and the mayhem begins to ensue. Youngins are slashed and thrashed, they run and they hide and ultimately the film ends with what is supposed to be a huge twist. Quite honestly – I saw it coming from a mile away.

With my rule of trying to say something positive about a film every time I review one, I will say that the premise of the movie was promising. Also, the actual Dark Ride atmosphere was very . . . well . . . dark – which is a good thing as far as atmosphere’s go.

Having said all that my suggestion about Dark Ride is that if you happen to catch it on SciFi (as I did) or some other channel, great, watch it maybe get a chuckle or two however, don’t go out of your way to see it. It just isn’t worth any effort on your part. Yes, that’s right; make the movie come to you!
