In Sickness and Health was John Landis’ submission to the Fear Itself series . . .

. . . and just as in his submission for the Showtime series Masters of Horror (Deer Woman) this one fell a bit short for me.

So we arrive in the church on wedding day and the bride (Maggie Lawson) is busily getting ready for her rush to marriage with a man (James Roday) who she barely knows. Her girlfriends Ruthie (Sonja Bennett) and Kelly (Christie Lang) are there to support her in her hasty decision when Ruthie gives her a note that Father Body (Marie Zydek) said was for left for the bride by a woman in a red scarf.

Once she reads it our bride becomes very upset and rightly so as the note reads “the person you are about to marry is a serial killer”. Fittingly frightened (or so we think), the bride goes to find her groom and after much ado decides to keep the wedding going as planned. She keeps the note tucked securely in her bosom as she goes merrily about her day. However, the groom acts very strangely post wedding and our bride freaks out again. All this fluff leads us to a confessional scene and Landis’ “twist ending”.

When you view this episode of Fear Itself you will realize how very lame this twist really is. I literally finished watching this and turned to my husband and vocalized my desire to have that 40+ minutes of my life back (gotta love the DVR). Another thing that disturbed me was Lawson’s uncanny resemblance to Alicia Silverstone – I found it quite distracting. I will admit that I liked the twin uncles played by Marshall Bell. They were a bit sweet and quirky even though the point of the character itself didn’t’ make much sense to me.
