Review - True Blood : Strange Love

I am very rarely impressed with the first episode of a new series . . .

. . . such is NOT the case with True Blood.

I can tell you that I know I am going to love this series. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is as quirky a character as they come. Her strange ability to read people’s minds coupled with her sense of undying morality is both sweet and hilarious all at the same time. Her brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten) is the equivalent of a male whore who seems to have gotten himself in quite the pickle during this premiere episode. Her best friend, Tara (Rutina Wesley) is one of those angry black women who bring tears to my eyes as I laugh at her angry blackness coming through. I am also finding myself loving Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) the flamboyantly gay completely inappropriate cook at Merlotte’s Bar.

Enter the vampire, Bill (Stephen Moyer) who young Sookie decides to save from the evil Rattray’s (Denise (Karina Logue) and Mack (James Parks)) who had very naughty plans to drain aforementioned vampire for their blood habit. Good thing for Bill, Sookie hears their nasty thoughts and saves him from their diabolical plan. Unfortunately for Sookie, the Rattray’s seem to hold a grudge as is evidenced by the last scene of the 1st episode entitled Strange Love.

I will wait with baited breath for next week to see what this new vampire series brings. Why can’t next Sunday come any quicker???
