Review - The Tripper

If nothing else in life teaches you not to go naked, hopping after a bunny in the redwood forest, The Tripper will . . .

So David Arquette makes a horror film and it is funny . . . go figure?! I found myself simultaneously amused and disgusted at different points during the viewing of this film. Between the sex, drugs and rock and roll there were multiple bouts of gratuitous violence and nudity. What more could a girl ask for?

Six friends go off to find themselves at the American Free Love Fest in the middle of the forest. Unfortunately for them, a Ronald Reagan obsessed hippie hating serial killer wants none of it. And his father in a misguided attempt to protect him sets traps for the young drug aficionados.

With a star studded cast including Jason Mews, David Arquette, Courtney Cox Arquette, Balthazar Getty, Marsha Thomason and Paul Reubens this horror/comedy aims to please. And please it does in a fluff filled 93 minutes of lessons against tree huggers, drug doers and child coddlers.

What I really found myself fancying about this film was the fact that I didn’t really have to think about it. It was fun; any movie with Jason Mews in it is bound to be fun in my opinion. I also completely enjoyed the whole Ronald Reagan aspect of it. I love the quote of “A hippie is someone who looks like Tarzan, walks like Jane, and smells like Cheetah”. Did Reagan really say this . . . why yes, yes he apparently did! Naughty Ronnie, just plain naughty.

My thoughts on The Tripper are this: if you are looking for a fun, no brainer movie then this should be on your short list. If you are looking for a movie to really sink your intellectual teeth into, this may not make the list at all (kinda depends on how intellectual you are). But you should definitely see The Tripper at some point – very entertaining.
