Death Tunnel was completely and utterly unwatchable . . .
I am not kidding here folks, I could not watch it. I got through about 15 minutes of it and not only could I not figure out what the hell was going on but I was also very angry that someone would waste a 1.5 million dollar budget and a really good premise on such a wretched piece of poo (notice that, it was so bad it didn’t even warrant the second "p" to make it a piece of poop).
Having said all that, this little traipse into the world of The Waverly Sanatorium made me want to learn more about the actual facility in Louisville, Kentucky. After all, this movie proclaims itself based on real life events. So I did some research and The Waverly Sanatorium really does exist. It started out as a 2 story building to house 40-50 TB patients in the early 1900’s and was then expanded to keep up with the increased cases of TB and became the immense building that stands along the hillside today.
It is purported to be haunted and they actually run weekly tours and they have a haunted house running from September 26-November 1 of this year. There is an official website at
www.therealwaverlyhills.com. There you can find all sorts of information on this place as well as see photos and hear EVPs that were recorded.
So all in all, trying to watch
Death Tunnel was not a total loss. I think it will prompt a trip to The Waverly Sanatorium and I will be letting you all know about the pictures I take and the eerie feelings I get whilst I am there!
