Ghost Ship really started off with a bang, it continued through its midsection with a whir, but by the ending it just sort of fizzled . . .

We meet the six man crew of the Arctic Warrior as they are coming into port after a rather extensive journey out. They are all ready to go home, spend some time with their loved ones and get some rest and relaxation. That is until they meet up with Jack Ferriman (Desmond Harrington) who seems hell bent on getting them to team up with him to pull into port one of the most saught after missing Italian luxury ocean liners - the Antonia Graza.

After a while the crew - consisting of Captain Sean Murphy (Gabriel Byrne), Maureen Epps (Julianna Margulies), Dodge (Ron Eldard), Greer (Isaiah Washington), Santos (Alex Dimitriades) and Munder (Karl Urban) - all take the bait and agree to go out with the strange Ferriman and tow his find to shore. But the job might be just a little more than they bargained for. After the discovery of a huge sum of gold on the ship, unfortunate incidents begin to befall each of the crew and they find that someone is not at all who they represented themselves to be.

This film begins with one of the best surprise multi-death scenes I have ever seen. But in the beginning, you don't really know what it is you are witnessing. After Epps starts seeing little Katie Hargrove (Emily Browning) appear around the ship, you start to get a clearer picture of what is really going on aboard this Ghost Ship.

Ghost Ship really seemed to want to make some sort of statement about greed and what it does to people. Maybe that greed is evil and when you want too much, then your very soul is open to the elements of all that is bad and wrong with the world. Okay, maybe I am trying to be a little too deep!

Fizzling ending aside, watching this film was a very fun ride. The character development was really rather good. I enjoyed the feeling that the music added into the flashback scenes with Katie. I really felt for her(Katie) and Epps especially. As I stated before, the beginning multi-kill scene was extraordinary but it took on a whole new meaning when you got the final explanation for it. The other kill scenes in the film were also very well done - very different and enjoyable.

In conclusion the beginning and middle of the film when averaged together were pretty good - the ending was sort of bad. So on a whole the movie was good. A definite watcher!

 Re: Ghost Ship
While I don't think Ghost Ship is the best that the genre can offer, I did find it watchable. It's another movie where the audience can cringe while people are shown their hearts desire and when they opt for the dream are granted a nightmare. Everyone trusts the evil guy, why oh why?

It was nice to see Byrne and Eomer, I mean Karl Urban working.

The DVD could use a commentary as sometimes in a passable movie the commentary makes it a keeper.

 Re: Ghost Ship
That opening scene from the movie scared the living hell out of me. What a way to set-up a movie. I was scared to even watch the rest for the fear that I might run up on another scene like that....AWESOME. That's how I like to be scared. When is the next one coming out!!!!
