Ho-hum - do any of these flicks ever get tired of ripping off Texas Chainsaw Massacre. . .

. . . "ho-hum", yes that about sums it up. Wrong Turn seems like a film that is almost on the verge of going the right way, but it somehow misses that left turn in Albuquerque somewhere. Having said that, it was somewhat entertaining. Especially around the middle and into the end. Notice I said "into the end" and not all the way to the end because the ending just sucked.

Basically a group of friends go on a little last minute camping trip in the mountains of West Virginia where they are literally run into by Chris Flynn (Desmond Harrington) who is on his way to some sort of interview. They go into the woods in search of a telephone and are one by one picked off by Three Finger (Julian Richings), Saw-Tooth (Garry Robbins) and One-Eye (Ted Clark) - a canniblalistic group of inbred backwoods boys.

Most of Wrong Turn is a series of running through the woods, hiding from the freaks and hoping not to get killed. That's it in a nutshell. . . although throughout the film I couldn't help but wonder who in the hell mothered these abominations? They are really freakish looking, even for freaks. Infinitely worse than the banjo picking side show in Deliverance. In my opinion, somebody went a little over the top in the special effects department there.

The kill scenes for the most part were pretty good. I have to say I almost jumped up and screamed "whoopie" when Carly (Emmanuelle Chriqui) met her end - she was rather annoying and whiny. And I did wish for Jessie Burlingame (Eliza Dushku) to suffer some sort of bad fate involving something to do with losing her voice (too Tara Reid-ish for me).

And again - the ending just sucked.

In the long run, Wrong Turn was watchable but just not that good.
