Hiking in the woods to find a mythological witch . . . never a good idea . . .

I remember that when I first saw The Blair Witch Project it reminded me so much of the days of my misspent (according to some) youth. I was very into everything paranormal and couldn't get enough of checking out places that people said were haunted or were the site of some grisly crime or something. I can tell you that if I saw this film first, I may have thought twice about my outings. Well, maybe not because when you are young you think you are invincible - don't you? I know I did.

The film is basically footage from a documentary that was being shot by three film students in the woods near Burkittesville, Maryland (formerly Blair). During the filming things go horribly wrong when the trio - Heather Donahue, Josh Leonard and Mike Williams - become hopelessly lost and begin seeing strange markings and hangings in the woods. Not to mention the fact that they are awakened each night by something going bump in the night.

As the days pass, one of the team goes missing and there is a desperate attempt to find them and get out of the woods with not only their lives but also their sanity. Sanity which at the end of a few days in the woods without enough supplies and sans one team member, would certainly be waning for even the most rugged amongst us.

Listen, people either love this film or hate it. There really is no in between. I happen to be a lover of The Blair Witch Project, probably in part due to my misspent youth. It was also a very fresh way to make a film and I imagine very horrifying to the people at the initial screenings who thought that this was a true story.

At any rate, try to get past the jerky camera shots and the dripping nose of Heather Donahue and you may find that there is a little of you in The Blair Witch Project too. Tres nostalgic . . .

 Re: The Blair Witch Project
I was nine when it came. Of coarse they had to make a bogus sequel to it, but the first goes down as a classic. It had no gore and didn't show the actual witch which actually made it damn good. The part when they heard the little kids outside the tent reminded me of so many camp outs. By the way, the sequel shouldn't have been made. It takes a direct right turn!

I am still trying to get through the sequel to review it. Dreadful stuff really.
