When people ask me what my favorite holiday is, no surprise, I answer Halloween! This has been my most favorite time of the year from whence I was a wee little one. I did some thinking recently about why and I have come up with many reasons . . .
1. The Fall season itself - When I was younger, I lived in Connecticut and the Fall season was by far my favorite in general - from jumpoing into the big pile of leaves my Dad had raked, to that first chill in the air. Just cool enough for sweaters and light jackets but not yet cold enough to have to bundle yourself up like an Eskimo! And the leaves with the bright oranges, yellows and reds . . . it is something I miss very much in my warmer less deciduous Floridian climate.
2. The Candy - I still love the candy, but I remember the thrill of going through the pillowcases of loot when my brothers and I got home from trick-or-treating. Sorting through the confection treasures ranging from the prized peanut butter cups (my personal favorite) all the way down to the silly people who thought that fruit was an appropriate treat (what were they thinking?).
3. The Decorations - Witches and black cats and ghosties galore, jack-o-lanterns and candy corns and much, much more . . . to this day Halloween is my most favorite holiday to decorate for. The warm oranges and deep dark black colors with the occasional red, green, yellow, silver or purple. What a color scheme!
4. The Ghost Stories - It seems that Halloween always brought out the stories of ghosts, demons and goblins that no other night could quite stir up. And let's not forget to mention the Urban Legends! Who hasn't heard the one about
the razors hidden in the Halloween candy or the more recent
Mall-O-Ween scare after the 2001 terrorist attacks?5. The Costumes - I am always amazed at the creativity of some people (myself included) when coming up with interesting and oh so fun Halloween duds. It's all in the details my friends, all in the details!
6. The Parties - From roughly 18-24 I was the queen of Halloween - parties that is. Every year was cause for another Halloween Ho-down. Costumes were definitely NOT optional! And what fun we would have. This year I am invited to a Halloween festivity and I have quite the costumes planned for me and my husband!
7. And last but certainly not least . . . The Plethora of Halloween Horror Films - during October it seems you can find just about any horror movie you want to see on the old telly. And there is something about the season that seems to make each and every horror story just that much scarier!
So don't forget during this Halloween Season -
to trick is human, to treat - divine! (Or something like that!)
