Cherry Falls. Good title, good premise . . .

. . . unfortunately, bad writing, bad (and over) acting and bad jokes too.

This film starts like a lot of slashers - teenagers in the car getting all hot and heavy when all of a sudden from out of the woods comes the killer who has been lurking unseen. Don't these kids ever learn that sex means certain death in horror films - it's one of the rules for Pete's sake!

As I stated before, the premise had promise. In a town called Cherry Falls (how ironic, eh?) a killer is stalking young virgins and offing them in pretty interesting ways. One victim was actually nailed to a tree while she was still alive and one was affixed to the ceiling and left to bleed out onto the floor below. Pretty gruesome stuff.

But the film fell apart when you added in all the overacting and almost bipolar mood swings of the main characters Jody Marken (Brittany Murphy) and Kenny Ascott (Gabriel Mann). Their on again off again romance left a lot to be desired. Especially for me because I just hate feet (you will understand if you watch their little "love" scene in the movie).

Marge Marken (Candy Clark) and Sheriff Brent Marken (Michael Biehn), Jody's parents just freaked me out because at any moment it seemed to me that they were going to start fondling their daughter inappropriately (not that there is an appropriate way to fondle a daughter but you get my point). The family dynamic to me was just way off.

Having said all that, there were some interesting kill scenes and I did chuckle a few times during the movie. Not saying that I recommend it you understand, but if it happens to be on it's almost worth watching . . . almost.
