Halloween Remake er, um I mean re-imagining . . .

Rob Zombie did a great interview regarding his upcoming “remake” of Halloween.

Here’s how he answered the question that everybody wants to know the answer to :

QUESTION: Can you please clarify what you mean when you say you are “not making a sequel” and that your Halloween will be a “re-imagining” of the series? Isn’t that just another word for “remake”? (from Cole in Chicago)
RZ: Well, sort of. I am basically making a prequel and a semi-remake of the first film all in one. So really in theory there will be more original content than remake content. That’s why I don’t like the word “remake.”

Good Answer!!! Okay so if you want to check out the rest of the interview just click on the link below.

Go Zombie!

The Omen (2006)

Stacilayne from Horror.com does an interesting side by side comparison of scenes from the original and the remake - if you haven’t seen either I wouldn’t recommend clicking this link - The Omen vs The Omen

Good stuff!

. . . speaking of Masters of Horror . . .

According to Horror.com contributor stacilayne -

The following (Masters of Horror: Season II) episodes have been confirmed:

Family, directed by John Landis and written by Brent Hanley, tells the story of a young married couple (Meredith Monroe and Matt Keeslar) that moves into a new home in a new city and finds out that their neighbor (George Wendt) is not what he seems.

Pelts, directed by Dario Argento, written by Matt Venne, adapted from F. Paul Wilson’s short-story, is an erotic tale about stolen raccoon pelts that violently turn against those that covet them in this Giallo-style adaptation of F. Paul Wilson’s short story. Meatloaf and John Saxon star.

The Damned Thing, directed by Tobe Hooper, inspired by Ambrose Bierce’s classic short-story and written by Richard Christian Matheson, is the apocalyptic tale of a monstrous force that devastates Sheriff Kevin Reddle’s family and his small Texas town. Sean Patrick Flanery, Marisa Coughlan and Ted Raimi star.

Pro-Life, directed by John Carpenter, written by Drew McWeeny & Scott Swan, tells the story of a young girl trapped inside a clinic, that discovers the only thing more dangerous than her pursuers is the demonic secret that she carries within her. Ron Perlman, and Caitlin Wachs star.

The V Word, a vampire film directed by Ernest Dickerson and written by Mick Garris, reveals the punishment visited upon two teenage boys who make the very poor decision to break into a mortuary. Michael Ironside stars.

Sounds Like, directed and written by Brad Anderson, adapted from a short-story by Mike O’Driscoll, tells the story of Larry Pearce - an ordinary man blessed with a gift of extraordinary supernatural hearing that drives him to the brink of insanity and forces him to take violent action to silence the horrific cacophony in his head.

The Screwfly Solution, directed by Joe Dante, written by Sam Hamm and adapted from the Raccoona Sheldon short-story, is about a nightmare virus infecting our nation, transforming men into psychotic killers who attack every woman that crosses their paths.

Valerie On The Stairs, directed and written by Mick Garris from a Clive Barker original screen story, tells the tale of a novelist who discovers there are fates worse than literary anonymity in this sexually-charged tale of terror.

We Scream For Ice Cream, directed by Tom Holland from David J. Schow’s adaptation of John Farris’ short-story, depicts a local ice cream man who, in this case, is turning sweet-toothed children against their parents.

The Black Cat, directed by Stuart Gordon and written by Gordon & Dennis Paoli, has the great Poe, out of ideas and short on cash, tormented by a black cat that will either destroy his life or inspire him to write one of his most famous stories.

I wait with baited breath . . .

The Reaping

When I went to see An American Haunting yesterday, I saw a trailer for a new movie coming out starring Hilary Swank. It’s called The Reaping and looks like it has the potential to be quite good.

Here’s the synopsis of the plot I found on IMDB:

Hilary Swank plays a former Christian missionary who lost her faith after her family was tragically killed, and has since become a world-renowned expert in disproving religious phenomena. But when she investigates a small Louisiana town that is suffering from what appear to be the Biblical plagues, she realizes that science cannot explain what is happening and she must regain her faith to combat dark forces threatening the community.

St. Augustine, FL

Okay, so I was visiting some friends down in St. Augustine, FL this week and for those of you who don’t know, St. Augustine is rumored to be a very haunted town.

Unfortuntately I was unable to go on any of the ghost tours or anything this time around due to some time constraints but while we were at the condo a freaky thing did happen . . .

So we were sleeping in the living room of their rented condo and before I went to sleep I turned off this light above the stove that they had on (you had to turn a little knob on the top of the hood - it wasn’t all that easy to turn off). All of a sudden about 15 minutes later the light just turned back on by itself. Everyone else was sleeping. It was a bit freaky.

I didn’t go the whole route of turning it back on again and seeing what happened though b/c I had myself freaked out enough and I figured that if some ghost really wanted the light on, who am I to stop them?

Hills Have Eyes 2

Here is a post that was on www.gorezone.net about the remake of the sequel to The Hills Have Eyes:

THE HILLS HAVE EYES remake 2: Wes Craven revealed that he and son Jonathan will be writing the sequel to Alexandre Aja’s THE HILLS HAVE EYES remake. “We want to continue the story of the miners,” Craven tells us. “This time, a group of National Guard screw-ups come face to face with the mutants on their last day of training in the desert. We will take the audience underground [into the mines] as well. The studio, Fox Searchlight, wants the sequel out a year to the day after the last one, so we have to deliver our script in a matter of weeks.”

I predict that the mutants will be just amazing. I just love mutants!

The Mangler

I have got this little goodie recorded on my Replay TV. I am starting to get a little worried though as I am seeing blocks on my screen meaning that my cable was not cooperating at the time this movie was recorded. It could just lock up on me but I hope not. This looks like a good movie, based on Stephen King’s short story and directed by Tobe Hooper. This came out in 1995.

Wish me luck!

The Simpsons Ironic Punishment toy

Oh, I got to get me one of these . . .

This toy created by McFarlane Toys based on the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror IV entitled “The Devil and Homer Simpson”. It is actually a crank action, donut feeding machine which feeds Homer donut after donut.

Looks pretty cool . . . mmmmm. . . . donuts . . .

McFarlane Toys recently took over Simpson toy production from Playmate Toys.

A Haunting

There is an “A Haunting” marathon going on right now on the Discovery Channel. Already this evening I watched one on the haunting of a farmhouse in my old hometown of Seymour, CT. Kinda freaky! I didn’t even know it was there. Makes me want to go and visit the old stomping grounds and see if I can’t find it!

Connecticut in general is beleived to be a very haunted place. The demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren have lived there for years. Don’t know if it still is, but they used to have a museum of haunted things on their property in Monroe CT that you could tour.

I never did go to their house, but I did go to a lecture they gave once and they seem very genuine!

I will definitely be out to see it sometime this weekend!

Grind House Update

Just saw a somewhat disturbing news article on bloody-disgusting.com that the Robert Rodriquez’s segment of Grind House has been possibly shut down for good? Not sure what to think of that little tid-bit right now, but that would be sad as it might mean a later (if at all) release date for the film.

Hmmmmm . . . or is this just some clever marketing scheme? It’s terrible, I feel so jaded even mentioning that. Damn you marketers . . .

Grind House

The new horror flick, Grind House due out December 2006 will feature two 75 minute movies. ONe by Quentin Tarantino which will be a slasher and one by Robert Rodriguez which will be a zombie based film.

With involvement from actors like Tom Savini, Danny Trejo, Rose McGowan and Lucy Lawless this seems like it should be quite interesting . . . can’t wait to see it!
